I’ve never been to therapy before—how do I know if it’s right for me?
Feeling unsure is completely normal. Therapy isn’t only for moments of crisis—it can be helpful if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, disconnected, or simply curious about understanding yourself better. If something in your life feels heavy or hard to manage on your own, therapy can be a supportive place to start.
How do I get started?
Getting started is easy. You can reach out to our office by phone or through our website, and we’ll help match you with a therapist based on your concerns, preferences, goals, and availability so you feel comfortable and supported from the start. We’ll guide you through each step and are always happy to answer questions along the way.
How soon can I be seen?
Availability can vary, but we do our best to schedule new clients as quickly as possible. When you contact us, we’ll share current openings and work with you to find a time that feels manageable for you.
What types of therapy do you offer?
At Copeland Counseling, we work with children, adolescents, and adults. We offer individual therapy, family therapy, and couples therapy to support a wide range of concerns and goals.
Do you offer therapy in Spanish?
Yes! We’re happy to offer therapy in Spanish, both in person and through virtual sessions.
Do you offer virtual (telehealth) sessions?
Yes. Many of our therapists offer secure virtual sessions for clients who prefer to meet online or live farther from our office. For children under the age of 12, we generally recommend in-person sessions whenever possible.
What can I expect during my first therapy session?
Your first session—often called an intake—is a chance for us to get to know you. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, your background, and what you’re hoping to work on. It’s also a great time for you to ask questions and get a feel for whether the therapist is a good fit.
How long are therapy sessions?
Initial intake sessions are 60 minutes. Ongoing individual therapy sessions are typically 55 minutes long.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, Copeland Counseling is in-network with many insurance plans, and we bill insurance companies directly. Therapy services may also be eligible for reimbursement through FSAs or HSAs. Since coverage varies, we recommend calling our office at 201-431-5505 so we can help verify your benefits and expected costs before you begin.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least 24 business hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less notice are subject to a $100 cancellation fee. Emergencies may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please note that insurance does not cover missed sessions, and HSA/FSA cards cannot be used for cancellation fees.
How is my information kept private?
We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant electronic medical record system called TherapyNotes to store client information. Our client portal allows you to complete forms and access paperwork safely and conveniently.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is very important to us. Therapy is confidential, and information is not shared without your written permission, except in specific situations required by law. These include concerns about child or elder abuse, serious threats of harm to others, or situations where someone may be at risk of harming themselves. In these cases, therapists are required to take steps to help ensure safety.
